Exmoor National Park was the first area in Europe to be recognised as an International Dark Sky Reserve (IDSR), one of only 19 worldwide!
At Steam and Stars, on the edge of Exmoor National Park, there is a great opportunity to view the wonders of the dark night sky. Throughout the year there are spectacular things to see with the naked eye, though we do provide binoculars to bring images that bit closer. We also have sky maps, astronomy books and other dark sky resources for you to borrow during your stay.
Here are some free apps you may find helpful for stargazing:
Stellarium, Heavens Above or Sky View Lite - Electronic sky maps
Star Walk (iOS) - Meteor shower guide
Stellar Tour (iOS) - International Space Station Detector and more
Dark Light - Turns mobile phone lights to red
Clear Outside - Rain alarm
Exmoor National Park have a host of dark sky resources on their website.
